2017. Every day. (05.07.17)

I love taking pictures, the every day, the mundane, the big, the fun, the celebrating, even the hard. Images I want to remember.  So, this year, I'm documenting my everyday. A photo a day for my FB/IG and then writing the stories of each on my blog weekly.

So, welcome to (May) 2017!

05.07.17
I volunteer one Sunday a month in the baby nursery at church, and of course we love all their little outfits.  How sweet are these little skinny jeans and fringe mocs. Bless her heart she had to have a wardrobe change due to a spit-up-filled morning.  Love this hour with these littles.

{05.07.17 - Bonus}
I had a paper to write and a presentation to finish up, but the sun was shining and I just needed to get out for a bit.  So, I took a little time to myself, hit the pool and started a new book.
Procrastination or Inspiration?
Eh.  Everything got done by 9:30 so totally worth it!

05.08.17
If you don't have Little Caesar's near you, you are missing out on the $5 Hot and Ready special. Little Caesar's used to basically be at the end of my block when I lived in Katy and many a Friday night after a week of teaching found me at the drive-thru for a $5 pizza. But, now it's not so convenient, so when I passed a Little Caesar's while out at lunch on Monday, I picked one up and started eating right there in my car! And, saved the rest for leftovers during the week.

05.09.17
The last night of the Spring semester of grad school! Hooray! This was my team for our class presentation, we researched and learned about Deontic Justice. Maybe I will post my paper, it really is an interesting topic.

05.10.17
Got this cd in the mail today which was included with ticket I purchased to see Little Big Town this summer during their residency at the Ryman! I'm super excited, they are one of my all time favorite groups.  I didn't take a trip when I turned 40, so I'm taking one as I near the end of my 40th year instead!

{05.10.17 - Bonus}
Auggie and I have been working towards jogging on our daily walks, and so far he's doing pretty good! Of course he's always happy when I put on tennis shoes and we head outside.

05.11.17
My bestie Stacy and I volunteered at the Every Village Gala this year.  If you've never heard of Every Village you can check them out (click here) and find out about the amazing work they do in South Sudan to bring the Bible to those who otherwise would never hear it and also to bring life changing water wells to their communities.

05.12.17
Friday. Poolside. Amen.
Two more Fridays and then I have 8 Fridays off in the summer! Hooray!

{05.12.17 - Bonus}
Friday was also "one of those days" at work. Sometimes you wonder do people really think about their actions. Our assistant brought me this treat in the afternoon and said she thought it described my day. She was right.  And, I'm grateful for her kindness.

05.13.17
Saturday one of my besties was in town from the Panhandle and we got to meet up for coffee. While it would have been amazing to sit by palm trees and catch up for hours, I'm certainly grateful for meeting right off the crazy 290 and catching up for a couple of hours. Misty and I met in 2000 at church, and became dear friends. We haven't lived near each other since 2003 or so, but have kept in touch for all these years. I'm thankful for those friends that stand the test of  time and distance.

{05.13.17 - Bonus}
I also got to see one of my college besties on Saturday night, so all in all it was a day that was good for my soul of time with dear friends and lots of laughs.

Thank you for reading, and would love for you to stay in touch!

What I Wore: Texas Spring

Since I took a picture of what I wore every day in March (click here), including multiple outfits some days, I haven't taken too many pics lately.  But, here's an update on what I've worn this Spring.

It is no secret that I love floral and stripes. We have had some unseasonably cooler days and I've still been wearing sweaters in April and even these first few days of May. This stripe button up is sleeveless from Banana Republic and a classic that I reach for over and over again. It also ends up in the laundry basket sometimes awaiting the iron and I think "I want to wear that, but it's not ironed", so it sits in waiting. These pants are from Target and the 3/4 sleeve navy cardigan is as well. Both pieces are I think from Spring-ish 2016.

After all day Saturday at my big work expo where we were soaked in humidity & heat early in the morning a cool front blew in late afternoon and I got to wear a flannel out for dinner. #TypicalTexas I love these vintage/bleached flannels, but they are something I always have to try on, due to fit. I happened to find this solo flannel in La Vida Loca's booth during Rodeo Houston and it was a perfect fit for me. I love the color combo. I actually added a sweater for dinner out on a patio with one of my besties. Flares are from Old Navy and mules are Dolce Vida from Target.

I picked this dress/tunic up during Texas Antiques week in the fields of Zapp Hall. I can't find the vendor on Instagram or Facebook. I put it on to wear to church and was super indecisive (obviously) about what to wear with it because I felt it was a little short for church. When in doubt, add some jeans and call it a day. The sleeves are super belled, hard to tell the detail, but again, loved the mixed print and color pattern. I will definitely get wear out of this over the summer! Also, I'm on the hunt for new white jeans. These don't fit me very well, and I've already tried on several pairs with no luck due to fit, too thin, too tight, too....blah blah blah....

Our Rockets are in the playoffs again and we got to have JEANS DAY in support of the Rockets. And all the employees said Amen.  At least the jeans loving employees. Or maybe just me. Either way you look at it I was super happy to toss on my Rocket's shirt and favorite Gap jeans for work. I love Ts, bold belts and jeans. Glasses are Warby Parker and yes, that's another cardigan.

I haven't really shopped much at all this year. The 2 tops mentioned above are about the only things I've bought. I did find a couple of cute new tops at Target lately.  This is one, you might have seen it on my Instagram, and can find it online (click here). I have already worn it with jeans and this day wore it with pink blush cropped pants from Old Navy. I am sure this will repeat throughout the summer for work with other pants and not work with jeans or shorts. Maybe even white jeans if I can find some that fit!

Of course my summer uniform of Nike Tempo Shorts are back for walks with Auggie everyday. I have all sorts of color patterns that get mixed and matched with tanks, t's and half-zips on cooler days. Have you seen the bold floral mixes of purple and red this spring? I like it! I have a pair of red work pants and I'm keeping my eye out for the right floral to go with those pants and a few other things too.  The Red Hat Ladies know their trends with the purple and red mix!

In case you weren't convinced I love mixed patterns and especially stripes + floral, even my pj's are mix & match. :)

2017. Every day. (04.30.17)

04.30.17
Sunday's have looked a lot like this lately, watching the sunshine through the windows while working on a school paper.  I did get out for a walk of course, and though these days seem long, I've already completed a school year's worth of MBA!  Summer sessions to go, and next year. August 2018 will be here in no time flat and graduation too!

05.01.17
May.  This year is flying.
I have had "dust" on my to-do list for forever, but heck, it just gets pushed off. Who likes to dust? And, there's 100 other things to do instead of dust.
Though, I know I was at a high point of paper-writing procrastination when I did do a quick bit of dusting and vacuuming a few days prior.  If you're in need of a hand-held vac, this Black and Decker one is so great!  Look for it online or at Walmart, Target, etc..

{05.01.17 - Bonus}
I posted this on my Facebook page, and it's worth remembering for this week:

Sometimes Mondays are productive even when you get home late from work....
Walk with Auggie
Make dinner
Wash dishes
DUST
Laundry folded
Blog
Laundry put away
Dishes put away
Astros on the TV with a win
Squats

Homework
(caught up as of yesterday, and start again tomorrow for final paper of the semester)
In the midst of a season of some very good things and some very hard things, days like this make me feel like me!! Also, super thankful for friends who check in on me in this season.
Nite nite!

05.02.17
10 months with the Auggie dog today!
Read all about him on last week's post, click here

05.03.17
Memorial Park will always be my favorite trail of Houston.  Great evening walk with a bestie. I love walking, talking and sorting out life with my besties. Always refreshes me!

05.04.17
I'm volunteering at a gala next week, so we had a volunteer training. Always fun to see friends and meet new people too. Not to mention yummy snacks from Zoe's Kitchen!

05.05.17
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
and, HAPPIER JEANS DAY at work with Rockets gear!  We're in the midst of NBA playoffs here where the Rockets are trying to #RunAsOne, if they can keep it together....
No matter what, I'll support them, especially if it means jeans at work!

{05.05.17 - Bonus}
Went to Happy Hour at one of my favorite neighborhood places with the best patio and a few work friends. Their "mule" is a good patio treat, since I don't drink margaritas.

05.06.17
The last week has been hard.  I found out Saturday that one of my friends and fellow Vice Chairman on one of my Rodeo Committees passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack while on polo field. He was the kind of guy with such a presence, one that leaves a void that will be felt for a long time. We celebrated his life on Saturday at a Polo Field, an absolutely beautiful day, with many tears as stories were told from the great life he lived and impact he made.

This is just a fraction of our committee, but we have all labored together from early mornings to late at night, with tons of laughs, become dear friends, and this day, lots of tears shed.
The Houston Polo Club honored Daren's life on Sunday with the riderless horse. Though I wasn't there, this picture is a visual I want to remember, missing one great rider.
Would you pray for his wife, and family, and various friend groups?

Take care of your people, tell them they matter.
This year is flying by, and reminded, again, life is but a fleeting moment.
Thankfully, we'll be reunited one day on polo fields of gold, in eternity with Jesus.

Thank you for reading, and would love for you to stay in touch!

Commit 30: April

In case you missed it in January, I'm taking 2017 in 30 day increments (well, sometimes 30, or 31 or 28) and committing to something for 30 days.

April...30 cards in 30 days.

If you know me, you know snail mail is one of my favorite treats to receive, but I also love to send notes to friends & family too!

So, in April, I decided to send 30 notes in 30 days.
Keeping it real, I wrote a note MOST days, but some days I wrote a couple to catch up.

I made a list at the beginning of the month to keep up with who I was sending to, accounted for a few special days - birthdays and dates to remember and mailed those cards to arrive on time for their day.
I also lettered all the envelopes with everyone's first name, a treat for snail mail!

Most days I had a note by my purse at night, ready to go out in the morning.
(And, sometimes I have cereal for a night time snack)

I drove by the Post Office and went inside to drop notes in the mail for early sorting, as first pick up was 7:30 for inside box.  I love having a Post Office so close to my house.

True confessions: one day I drove through the drop off at lunch, and dropped in two notes with NO STAMPS.  I went inside and the nice guy came out and opened up the box, found my notes, let me put stamps on them and sent them on their way. I should have asked him for a picture. :)

I loved hearing from friends who received a note, on a day that they really needed a little encouragement and I received a few pictures back too.

And, I even got some snail mail of my own in my mailbox this month!

Next time you think "I should send a note to them", do it.
Someone will open their mailbox and that little note will likely make their day!

After I decided on this commitment for April, I realized April was
#NationalLetterWritingMonth.
So, I think this is one I will continue in the future during the month of April.

So, that was my Commit for April
30 notes in 30 days.

Now for May.
Stay tuned for the end of month reveal.

What would you commit to for 30 days?
I have several things I have thought of, but would love to hear some other ideas.

Spoiler Alert: October will be #write31days.
Yes, I'm already thinking about a topic.

#commit
It's good discipline in all aspects of life.
